Understanding Acne: The Types of Acne Explained

Types of Acne
It is extremely essential that one knows the specific types of acne there are, because when you know the types you would be able to determine the specific one you have and thus be able to tailor the appropriate treatment.
Here are 5 most common types of acne, and the common names that we refer to them by.

1. Acne Vulgaris
This is categorized as perhaps the most common type of acne and it is easily identifiable. Acne Vulgaris most often times come with spots like whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules as well as very painful nodules. This type can usually be treated at home with ointments, natural treatments or typical over the counter acne products targeted to your skin type. Acne vulgaris affects the areas of skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back.

2. Acne Rosacea
Acne Rosacea is characterized by rashes on the cheeks, forehead, chin and nose, redness and flushing, red nose, spider-like blood vessels on the face, acne like skin sore that may ooze or crust, and burning or stinging feeling on the face. Acne rosacea like other forms of acne leaves spots on the skin and these spots appear similar to those caused by acne vulgaris.
Sufferers end up with pimples, bumps and blemishes, but usually no black or white heads. This type of acne affects mainly women and those around age 30 to 50 years old. Because it is a little more extreme than the vulgaris strain, this acne type requires more powerful treatments, which may or may require a doctor’s prescription. What is important in treating Acne Rosacea like other types of acne is acquiring a treatment targeted for this condition.

3. Acne Conglobata
This type of acne is described as an uncommon and unusually severe type frequently found in males. It is characterized by a number of large lesions interconnected across the face. There are also widespread blackheads found with this type of acne. Acne Conglobata is known to cause severe skin damage and scarring over time. Treatment with steroids are said to be effective in treatment, however this must be prescribed by a medical personnel.

4. Acne Fulminans
A severe type of acne that mainly affects young men it usually begins at the age of puberty. This condition is believed to be an immunological problem in which elevated level of testosterone causes a rise in sebum and Propionibacterium acnes, A bacteria that is linked to acne and skin problems. Acne Fulminans is different from other forms of acne in that it usually begins with fever, pain and aching and inflamed joints, and symptoms progress to swelling of lymph nodes. Some persons experience a complete loss of appetite. Acne Fulminans is so severe that treatment may require hospitalization, but in less severe cases steroids are used. Here again acne treatment must be authorized by a medical practitioner.

5. Pyoderma Faciale
A rare acne-like skin condition, usually only affects women between 20 and 40 years of age. Characterized by large painful nodules, pustules and acne sores that may form scars if left untreated. Comes on abruptly like the fulminans strain in men, but is confined to the face and doesn’t usually last for longer than a year.

3 Essential Products For A Clear Face

Everyone wants clean clear skin, but more often than not you are not aware as to how to achieve this. Below are three essential products that would ensure you get the skin you want
  1. A Facial Scrub, do not underestimate the usefulness of a facial scrub and its ability to polish the face. if your face looks dull or there are marks that do not seem to go away regardless of your numerous efforts to clear it up. Then it should be obvious that your face needs a little more attention. facial scrubs are useful in that they slough away dead skin and remove impurities and in the process provide a glowing youthful appearance. Scrubs should be an essential addition to your facial regimen because they work amazingly well to improve the look of your skin. scrubs with small particles are preferred since they clean the face without causing breaks in the skin. If you have a facial scrub that has large particles however, make sure that you rub your face gently so as to avoid damaging the skin.
  2. Spot Removal Cream, sometimes the face may have spots that are too extensive to treat with a simple facial scrub in that case you would be required to use a spot correcting cream. Creams of this nature may not produce the glow as would be given by the scrubs but they would certainly clear the marks up. The problem comes when trying to find one that works effectively, however this company seem to have a very effective product that not only work on the face but on any part of the body that requires spot removal.
  3. A good Anti Blemish Moisturizer, there are numerous moisturizer out there and all claim to work well but as we all know not all of those claims are true or at least we don't experience the effects that the companies claim we should see when we use them. However in choosing a good anti-blemish product it must be proven to be effective based on customers review. Top 5 Acne Myths

Like many other common disorders and diseases, there have been several myths and unrealistic assumptions associated with acne. The main cause of the formation and spread of these myths is lack of proper understanding of the disorder, little or no knowledge about the development of disease and unnecessary delay in diagnosis and treatment of acne.
The following article attempts to explain some of the common acne-related myths and also throws light on the actual reality behind each of these myths.

Myth 1: Acne is caused by poor hygiene alone
Fact: For many persons acne is not caused by poor hygiene, sweating, or not washing the face properly. These factors do not cause the clogged pores that contribute to acne development. Other factors such as genetics or hormonal issue may be contributing factors.

Myth 2: Acne is caused by our diet
Fact: Acne is not caused by diet. No scientific connection has been found between diet and acne. No food, not chocolate, fries, pizza, or any other food, has been shown to actually “cause” acne. However, diet can play an important role in lessening or aggravating the intensity of the disease.

Myth 3: There is no treatment or cure for acne
Fact: Acne does not need to be allowed to run its course. The condition can be treated as there are prescription medications and over-the-counter (OTC) products (although medicines are never free of side effects) for it. There have been also some natural or herbal treatments for acne that have, to date, no reported side effect.
Myth 4: I can prevent acne by deligently washing my face more often
Fact: No.  You cannot prevent acne from washing my face more often. Dirt does not cause acne. It is the overproduction of oil (sebum) from within the skin rather than the surface oil/dirt that leads to acne.

Myth 5: Squeezing a pimple may help me get rid of those notorious pimples
Fact: Absolutely not. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Squeezing a pimple may cause the contents of the follicle to rupture into the tissue rather than being expressed to the surface of the skin.  This can cause tissue damage and scarring. Sometimes a medical provider will open a pimple or cyst with a special instrument designed not to damage the tissue, but you should avoid squeezing or picking pimples.

5 Steps To Managing Acne Rosacea

Acne Rosacea is often more difficult to treat because most of the common treatment products are unable to provide relief to sufferers. Below are 5 steps to effectively managing this type of acne.

1.       Determine specifically that you are suffering from acne rosacea. This can be done most accurately by consulting your dermatologist or a skin care expert. Additionally you could make a determination based on the symptoms you have. I would stop short of identifying specific symptoms however, a search online would allow you to figure out if it is that you have this particular skin condition. All you would have to do is a simple google search for symptoms of rosacea, and based on the common symptoms you find,  you would be able to determine if those are what you may be experiencing.

2.       Find targeted treatment, this may be in the form of prescribed medication or topical over the counter products. It must be noted that this skin condition is usually controlled with prescribed medication, hence seeking professional help is pivotal in effective management. This is not to say that persons have not been able to control this problem without the aid of a medical or skin care professional. Targeted treatment can be sought by the advice obtained after your consultation with your doctor as well as from doing you own research. The internet is loaded with information on a number of topics and treatment for acne roseace is no exception.

3.       Follow recommendations. Whether you sought the advice of a professional or did some research on your own be sure to follow the advice you were given. Most persons with this condition know that it is more difficult to control than other milder forms. Hence strict discipline must be adhered to in order to have good results. Like most acne treatment there may not be one single right treatment for everyone with acne roseace, so deciding on a treatment for you and sticking to it would allow it some time to work.

4.       Monitor your progress, you must be able to asses where you have started in order to monitor the progress that you have made in terms of seeing improvement on your skin. Monitoring is essential if you are going to judge whether or not there has been any improvement. Monitoring also ensures that you are using the best product for your rosacea. If for example after using a product for three weeks and no results are apparent it would be wise to review the products you are using, and or revisit your skin care professional so that a more effective and targeted treatment can be given.

5.       Be consistent, after you would have found a treatment that effectively manages your acne roscea, consistently using this product is the key to improving the appearance of you skin.

Managing acne roseace can be achieved if you are disciplined in your approach to both gathering information as well as following a treatment regimen.
